Description of activity: I read a story about a sparrow, then we watched the video clip on Dinja Wahda site. We talked about sparrow roosts and discussed the topic, we did a large tree made out of recycled paper with paper birds on. We even did a special assembly.

During this activity the children became aware that it is very important to protect the robins. They also learned a lot of general knowledge about this particular bird.

1)Children saw the power point regarding the four different types of butterflies.
2)The children drew the butterflies given according to the pictures of the butterflies
3) Children were put in teams of four
4) The children picked the cards stuck with the butterfly
5) The children put back the cards in their box
6) Children count points. The team that has the most points wins.

In the following activity, children were exposed to different flowers found in the Maltese countryside. They were displayed on the interactive whiteboard. Children worked in pair and were give a picture of the flowers. The flower ‘facts’ were read and the children had to think and guess if it was referring to their flower. After, the children had to colour the flowers exactly as the pictures on the interactive whiteboard. The flowers are displayed in the classroom. The children enjoyed this activity.

The children showed a lot of enthusiasm when they heard information about the Robin. They listened to the Robin story and they identified the appropriate and inappropriate behaviour of the children towards the birds. We ended the session with the round robin mobiles. These are hung in class.

DINJA WAHDA AWARDS
Mellieħa Primary, once again got the Gold Award for Dinja Waħda. The Eko Skola Committee works very hard and all good work is rewarded. Two representatives from the Committee - Oana Briffa and Andrew Mifsud represented our school during the Awards Ceremony. Well done to all involved

OUTING TO GĦADIRA NATURE RESERVE
On Monday 19th October 2015, the students in Year 5.1 – Ms Eleanor’s class went to Għadira Nature Reserve on a personal invite from Dinja Waħda. Mellieħa Primary won the Gold Award for the scholastic year 2014/2015 thanks to all our teachers and students. Their dedication got us the reward we deserve.
They took part in various outdoor learning activities. Later in the day, they presented their work to the Education Minister & Head of EC Representation in Malta.
During this outing there was an introduction of a new Activity Book and a speech from the Education Minister. Hon. Evarist Bartolo presented certificates to the students.
This educational outing, by Dinja Waħda was a very interesting experience for our Year 5 students. A big thanks goes to their teacher Ms Eleanor Vella and Ms Rosanne Delceppo who prepared the students prior this experience and helped them during the activities. Well done to all!
