Nhar il-Ħamis 12 ta' Marzu, 2015 il-klassijiet tal-Ħames sena tal-Iskola Primarja tal-Mellieħa ipparteċipaw fiċ-Ċerimonja ta' tħawwil ta' ammont ta' siġar taż-żebbuġ quddiem l-istess skola bħala parti mill-pjan t'azzjoni tal-kumitat tal-Eko-Skola. Il-Kunsill Lokali tal-Mellieħa stieden l-istudenti biex ikunu rappreżentanti tal-proġett LEAP.
Is-sindku tal-Mellieħa, is-Sur John Buttiġieġ flimkien mas-Sur Martin Chetcuti mill-MFSS spjegaw li għal Mellieħa aħjar, jeħtieġ ikollna siġar bħal dawn li ħawwilna llum. It-tfal tal-iskola tal-Mellieħa qalu tajjeb ħafna li bis-saħħa tas-siġar, aħna jkollna arja iżjed nadifa u ambjent sabiħ u rilassanti. Qalu wkoll li hemm xi siġar li jtuna frott mill-aktar bnin u barra minn hekk, meta s-siġar jikbru, jkunu jistgħu joffru post fejn wieħed jista jistkenn mix-xemx tant qawwija li jkollna fl-istaġun tas-Sajf.
Dawn is-siġar taż-żebbuġ, barra li żgur isebbħu l-ambjent quddiem l-iskola, huma wkoll simbolu tal-paċi - paċi fid-dinja, paċi fil-pajjiż, imma b'mod speċjali paċi fil-qalb tagħna. It-tfal qraw xi poeżiji biex juru l-importanza li jkollna siġar li tassew jagħmlulna ħajjitna isbaħ u aħjar.
Din kienet okkażjoni fejn studenti ta' bejn disgħa u għaxar snin, ħadmu flimkien m'anzjani mid-dar tal-anzjani ġewwa l-Mellieħa biex ħawwlu is-siġar. L-innoċenza tat-tfal, flimkien mal-għerf ta' dawn l-anzjani spikkat waqt li, ħawwlu dawn is-siġar b'tant determinazzjoni. L-anzjani taw il-pariri tagħhom kif ukoll spjegaw lit-tfal kif jiftakru l-Mellieħa ta' għexieren ta' snin ilu. It-tfal, kollha kurzita', staqsew diversi mistoqsijiet lil dawn l-anzjani.
Preżenti għal din l-okkażjoni, kien hemm is-Sindku tal-Mellieħa, is-Sur John Buttigieg, is-Sur Martin Chetcuti mill-MFSS, rappreżentanta mill-amministrazzjoni tal-iskola, żewġ għalliema tal-ħames sena, Ms Elizabeth Agius minn Eko-Skola, tfal mill-iskola tal-Mellieħa kif ukoll xi anzjani mid-dar tal-anzjani tal-Mellieħa.

Science Fieldwork - Red Tower Mellieha. On 12th March, we had our Science Fieldwork.We had the opportunity to use our senses, such as to observe the environment and to listen to the sounds around us. We learned to use a quadrant and we learned more about rubble walls. We enjoyed it a lot!

The children had the opportunity to learn more about the hedgehog and the dangers that he faces daily. Finally, the children made a promise card, in order to tell the car drivers to slow down when they drive at night in the countryside.

The children participated in the Dinja Wahda activity called 'I Promise'.
First the children had a presentation about the Maltese hedghogs. They learned how they should take care of them. Then, they did a promise together to be more careful and passed on the message to their family.

This activity was to raise awareness about the fact that only a few hedgehogs are still living in our natual habitats.
The children made a promise to the hedgehogs around us that they will try their best to take care of the natural habitat where the hedgehogs live by asking their parents or caregivers to drive their cars slowly at night especially by the countryside.
